Chapter 63 Only the Parents Always Worry About Their Sons/Daughters
As night fell, the neon lights on the streets of Ducco lit up one after another.
Amanda left the community in a huff. After walking along the road for an unknown period, she was tired and stood by the side of the road. When Amanda thought of being ridiculed by the Byran Family in the afternoon, her mother went to Iverson shamelessly. These two things made her angrier, and she kicked the tree hard.
She didn’t know how much trouble her mother had brought her.
The car horn suddenly honked. She raised her head and saw a black colored car slowly stopping beside her. The back window rolled down to reveal an offish face.
… Iverson?
Amanda was stunned.
Iverson glanced at her and asked flatly, “What’s wrong? Why did you run out so late at night and vent your anger on a tree?”
Amanda frowned. “Why are you here?”
Jamie’s voice came from ahead. “Mr. Byran has just sent Auntie Jewell home. He’s about to leave when he saw you.”
Amanda gritted her teeth.
She knew that she had not wronged her mother. As expected, she had gone to look for Iverson and asked him to send her back.
“I’m sorry, my mother went to disturb you again,” Amanda braced and said, “if such a thing happens again next time, just ignore her. I’ll make it clear to her.”
“Make it clear what?”
“Make it clear that we are not the kind of relationship she thinks.”
Iverson frowned slightly. He studied Amanda’s angry expression and guessed, “Is that why you vented your anger on the tree?”
Amanda frowned in silence.
“Do you know what Auntie Jewell said to me?”
Hearing this, Amanda felt humiliated, but before she could explain, the car door was pushed open from the inside.
Iverson sat inside, patted his side, and said, “Get in the car and talk.”
The car drove in the Second Ring Road of Ducco and passed by bustling night scenes.
Iverson said, “Auntie Jewell came to me today not only to deliver food to me but also to ask me something.”
Amanda raised her head to look at Iverson.
The lights inside the car were dim, and street lights flashed outside the vehicle, sometimes bright and sometimes dark.
“Auntie Jewell asked me if I would marry you.”
Hearing that, Amanda felt highly embarrassed. “I’m sorry.”
“I haven’t finished yet.”
Iverson exhaled slowly and said flatly, “She said you’ve just divorced, so you can’t remarry so early because you have concerns in your heart. She also asked me to think about marriage between families of equal social status and ask about my family’s opinions. If I like you, I’ll ask my family to accept you.”
Amanda was surprised. “Did my mom say that?”
It was hard for her to imagine that such words came out of her mother’s mouth.
Iverson nodded slightly. “Auntie cares about you a lot.”
Amanda’s heart was filled with mixed feelings as if a bottle of five flavors had been overturned instantly.
Just before she went out, she had a quarrel with her mother. She mentioned that she insisted on marrying Halley earlier three years ago, and her words were very unpleasant to hear.
“Mr. Byran, it’s getting late. I know a good restaurant. Would you like to have dinner with Miss Jewell?”
Jamie’s voice came from ahead.
Iverson glanced at Amanda and said flatly, “Let’s do it another day. Turn around and go back to Sisson Tower.”
Amanda came back senses but didn’t know what to say.
Iverson was only a few years older than her, but his calmness seemed untouchable. As long as he looked at her, it seemed that nothing could be hidden from him.
At the gate of the Sisson Garden Community,
Amanda got out of the car and thanked Iverson. “Thank you.”
“Auntie sent me something to eat, and you’re thanking me?”
“It’s not about this; it’s about the office building.”
Iverson frowned slightly.All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“I’ll go back first.”
Amanda nodded at the car as a farewell and turned to enter the community.
Leaning against his chair, Iverson seemed to be lost in thought.
“When did she find out about the office building?”
Jamie was also puzzled. “The real estate agent said Miss Jewell called her in the afternoon and agreed to sign the contract directly. She was also puzzled. She had just seen it.”
Iverson’s eyes darkened.
By the time Amanda got home, Mrs. Elder Jewell had already left.
She saw the fruits cut on the coffee table and a note under them. “I’m going back. Remember to eat more fruits. They will evaporate and lose their nutrition if left there for too long. The braised pork and chicken soup in the refrigerator can be eaten once heated. Don’t put them in the refrigerator for too long.”
When she opened the refrigerator door, everything was neatly arranged inside. The box containing braised pork and chicken soup was placed outside, and she saw them as soon as she opened it.
Amanda was moving, and the rims of her eyes reddened.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Elder Jewell was on the bus home.
Her phone vibrated, and a message from Amanda jumped out. “Mom, stay a few more days next time. Don’t go back and forth. It’s so far away. I like to eat braised pork that has just been cooked.”
Mrs. Elder Jewell smiled and replied, “Okay.”
It was late at night.
In the old house of the Byran Family
“What does it have to do with me?”
“First of all, I’m afraid that your status won’t be able to decide to raise me in such a condition…”
The contents of the mobile phone recording echoed in the living room.
Mrs. Old Byran’s face grew darker.
Victoria cut off the recording in time and said sarcastically, “Look, it’s fortunate that I was the one who went to meet her. If you had gone in person, you would have been outraged. What is she talking about? She doesn’t know how to respect elders at all. I was just telling her that if she were to marry Iverson, she would have signed a pre-marital agreement. She immediately made fun of me.”
Mrs. Old Byran took a deep breath, and her face darkened. “This woman is indeed not simple.”
Victoria took the opportunity to add fuel to the fire. “It’s our fault that we don’t usually pick out girls for Iverson. The girls we used to introduce were all young girls. They weren’t scheming, and Iverson didn’t like them. Amanda has been married and has seen much of the world. How could she not be shrewd?”
“Mom, I think we should make the first move. We can’t let Iverson be fooled by her.”
“I have to think about it carefully.” Mrs. Old Byran held her walking stick with a rugged look. “She’s such a woman and has such a strong personality. If she marries into our family, it won’t be peaceful.”
Seeing Mrs. Old Byran’s dissatisfied look, Victoria nodded and showed a trace of pride in her eyes.
When Mrs. Old Byran returned to her room, she immediately gave Lydia a call.
“Mrs. Old Byran is very dissatisfied with Amanda now. It’s basically impossible for Amanda to get a pass.”
“Thank you, Aunty Carey.”
“It’s too early to thank me now. To marry Iverson, you must put in some effort on both. After all, with Iverson’s character, Mrs. Old Byran might be unable to stop him if he really wants to marry someone.”
“I understand, Aunty Carey. I’ve found a way.”
After hanging up the phone, Victoria crossed her arms and looked out the window with greedy eyes.
The mountains outside were beautiful. The villa area of the old house of the Byran Family was one of the hundreds of millions of luxury houses in Ducco. Still, none of them belonged to her for the time being.
