Chapter 1016 Meeting An Old Friend
After hearing that, Veronique couldn't help but chuckle.
Justin wouldn't let Scarlett get away with things easily. She trusted him and believed that the wedding he spoke of was merely a ruse.
“Father, please don't worry yourself. The truth will be out in three days. Besides, I don't even care, so why are you so upset?”
Bill glared at her, laughing as he scolded, “After a stroll through the gates of death, your temper has certainly mellowed quite a bit. Fine then,
after all these years of struggle, you've finally seen the lights of hope. I reckon you would cherish this hard-earned togetherness. I'm old and
can't manage things like before. I don't ask for anything else, just that you and your sister live peacefully and happily.”
Just as Veronique was about to speak, the phone on the table suddenly rang. It was a text message from Justin: Bailey has returned to
Hallsbay. I'll accompany you to see her tonight.
With great joy, Veronique suddenly sat up from the lounge chair.
She hadn't seen Bailey for several months now. She imagined that the latter must have experienced a lot during her time abroad. Veronique
was curious to learn about Bailey's experiences abroad. They should be returning on the Luther family's private jet, landing directly at the
Luther residence, I presume.
“Father, I'm going to the Luther residence.” Having said that, she got up, ready to leave.
Even though Justin had promised to accompany her to the Luther residence in the evening, she couldn't wait any longer.
Bill quickly reached out to stop her, reminding her, “In the eyes of outsiders, you are considered dead. If you just go out like this, it will cause
a huge uproar. Just wait a little longer. Once Justin has dealt with Scarlett and released a statement clarifying that you're not dead, then you
can show yourself. This way, we can avoid any unnecessary gossip from the outside world.”
Veronique sank back into her chair, her voice soft and weary. “Ever since I played dead, the dangers around me have indeed disappeared. I'm
no longer on the bad side of Scarlett and Mrs. Xuereb. However, these days have been truly unbearable. I've been in this courtyard for nearly
three months, practically becoming a recluse. I've been eagerly awaiting Bailey's return, but I can't even go out to see her.”
“You can't come out to see me, but I can come in to see you.” A familiar teasing voice echoed.
Veronique turned her head abruptly, only to see Bailey walking toward her, led by a maid.
Reunited, both of them felt as if they hadn't seen each other for a lifetime.
Indeed, it felt as if a lifetime had passed. After all, she had walked through the gates of death, and now, being alive, it was as if she had been
given a new lease on life.
Moreover, she heard that Artemis was afflicted by the Yablon family's prohibited drug, Soul Reaper, and was once on the brink of death.
Given Bailey's temperament and her deep love for Artemis, if Artemis were to die, she surely wouldn't want to live alone.
So, all in all, they'd all had a brush with death.
Meeting each other again really stirred up a lot of emotions within them.
After gathering her emotions, Veronique quickly stood up, took large strides toward Bailey, and held her tightly in her arms.
Bailey smiled and reached out to pat Veronique's back. She arched her brow and said, “Vero, congratulations on your rebirth.”
Since ancient times, no one with late-stage cancer was able to survive. Veronique was a miracle in clinical history.
Of course, it all came down to one daring to treat, and the other daring to gamble.
She adopted the method of fighting cancer with cancer. If she didn't have that kind of courage, she wouldn't have been able to find a way to
survive in that desperate situation.
Tears blurred Veronique's vision as she choked out. “I thought I was done for. Even though my medical skills are quite exceptional, they still
don't compare to your courage, determination, and insight.”
Bailey shook her head with a smile.
She wouldn't dare take credit for that achievement.
Firstly, it was Zain who proposed the method of using cancer to fight cancer.
Secondly, using cancer to fight cancer could only weaken the spread of cancer cells. In the end, it still relied on Cameron's poison to eliminate
the cancer cells.
At most, she merely facilitated that matter. As for the other credits, she wouldn't dare to accept them.
Veronique seemed to have read her thoughts and couldn't help but laugh, saying, “Firstly, Zain is your disciple. If it weren't for your careful
guidance, he wouldn't have such insights. Secondly, Cameron considers you a friend, and that's why he prepared the poison for me. If it were
anyone else, he probably wouldn't even bother.”
Bailey shook her head with a smile. “After all you've said, what else can I fuss about? How's your health? Have the cancer cells been
completely controlled?”
As soon as she returned to Hallsbay, she didn't even enter the Luther residence. Instead, she landed directly in the countryside and hurried to
the villa.
Veronique had been her good friend for many years. If it weren't for Zain and Justin looking after her, she probably wouldn't have stayed
abroad for such a long time.
Even though Justin assured her that Veronique was no longer in serious danger, she still couldn't help but worry.
Only by personally treating her and ensuring all cancer cells were completely eradicated could she truly find peace of mind.
Veronique knew what she was thinking and chuckled lightly. “Even if I tell you I'm fine, I suppose you wouldn't believe me, would you? It
would be better to visit the infirmary. You can give me a thorough check-up so you can understand my physical condition and put your mind
at ease.”
Bailey laughed heartily. “You really do understand me.”
“Forget it. I shouldn't know you too well, and you shouldn't know me too well either. Otherwise, your significant other might even get jealous
of me.”
Bailey was rendered speechless.
Meanwhile, in the backyard of the Luther residence, upon receiving the news of their children's return, Gerald and Felicity eagerly awaited
their arrival on the outdoor grounds.
After several months apart, the couple had noticeably lost much of their vitality.
The supposed death of Artemis had already dealt them a huge blow. Later, although they heard he was still alive, their health had deteriorated
to such an extent that no amount of care could help.
“I'm just glad you're back. I'm getting on in years and can't take much more upheaval. As long as they're fine, I can endure anything.”
“Everything will be fine. Their safe return shows that they are truly blessed children.”
After a half-hour back-and-forth conversation between the husband and wife, the private jet gradually landed in the helipad on the outdoor
grounds.
The cabin door swung open, and the first to rush out were the kids.
Felicity hurriedly went to greet them, hugging and giving each kid a few kisses.
Looking up, she didn't see Bailey coming down. She couldn't help but frown and ask, “Where is Bay? Wasn't she supposed to come back with
us? Why don't I see her?”
Artemis said in a gentle voice, “She and Zeke landed in the countryside. Zeke must have gone back to the Shurmer residence. Bailey went to
see Veronique. After all, Veronique had a brush with death. She couldn't help but worry.”
Felicity was about to speak when the mournful voice of Simon came through, thick with dissatisfaction.
“Mom, you can't play favorites like this, only caring about Artemis' wife and not mine... Ouch, that hurts.”
Catherine pinched his waist fiercely, a strong warning flashing in her eyes. He's even playing the victim. I really can't afford to be embarrassed
by him.
Felicity let out a gasp, her gaze landing on Catherine as if she had discovered a new world.
Ever since Caridee returned home recently, she had shared with her parents about what happened to Catherine. Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Upon learning that Simon had already started a family and even had a daughter about the same age as Max and his siblings, they were
overjoyed.
Felicity tenderly held Catherine, smiling as she said, “You must be Cath. You're a good girl. Simon was out of line, causing you trouble and
harm. He's been a scoundrel, getting you pregnant and leaving you unattended. He has neglected you and your daughter for years, causing you
both much hardship. Now that I know, I won't let him off easily.”
