Chapter 124
Chapter 124
Zayron whipped his head aside, still puckering his lips.
“I don't understand what you're talking about. What organization? You make it sound like it's some underground operation. Do you think a kid like me would know anything about stuff like that?”
Artemis narrowed his eyes and pondered until he finally laughed. “You're right. You're just a kid. There's no way you'd know anything about that. I must have made a mistake. I'm sorry.” Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
Zayron tugged his lips at the man.
I can't believe someone can be this cunning. I finally understand why people say he's a sly fox. He definitely is one.
Artemis gave the boy back his explosive and reminded him, “Try not to use something so dangerous next time. You might end up blowing yourself up.”
He's even got a serpent's tongue!
Unlike his brother, Susan was delighted to see Artemis. She came out from behind Zayron and smiled at the man. “Hi, boss. It's nice to see you again.”
Artemis' expression softened when he saw the girl.
She had always managed to touch the most tender spot in his heart.
Artemis picked her up and brought her into the house.
“You're a good girl, Susan. I'll bring you to your great-granddad. I'm sure you would want him to be around longer so you can grow up with him around.”
Susan blinked her eyes at Artemis knowingly.
Maxton had told her the night before that Glen refused to be operated on, and no one was able to change his mind, so Artemis was hinting that the girl should try persuading the old man, but Susan knew this was not within her ability.
If Glen agreed to undergo surgery, the Luthers would force Veronique to tell them who Anonymous was.
The last thing the girl wanted was to make things difficult for Bailey.
Although Glen was her great-granddad, Bailey was still the most important person to her. No one could take precedence over Bailey in the girl's heart.
“I can talk to Great-granddad about it, but is there even anyone who can operate on him? If no one can do it, there's no point even if he agrees to do it. Won't Great-granddad be sad?”
Artemis was startled. He looked down, only to see the girl's small and cute features.
The shape and features of her face reminded him of Bailey, and his heart melted.
He loved Bailey, so there was no way he would not feel the same way looking at her daughter.
“You're right. Then we'll just spend time with Great-granddad today, okay? We'll make sure he has a good time without talking about his operation. We'll only talk to him once a doctor can help him.”
Uh...
Susan suddenly felt like she just made things worse.
Over in the ward, Glen was thrilled to see his great-grandchildren.
He kissed the kids over and over again the moment he saw them.
To him, he had lived a good and long life of outstanding achievements. The only thing he wanted then was no longer success, power, or wealth but his great-grandchildren.
“Great-granddad!” Susan complained, “I don't like your beard. They feel so itchy!”
Glen laughed heartily hearing the girl.
After playing with them for a while, he asked the girl, “Susan, do you want to move back to the Luther residence? You can live with your dad.”
The smile on Susan's face stiffened, and she shook her head instantly. “No. I don't want him to be my daddy. He has a girlfriend. That means I have to call someone else 'Mommy.‘“
Glen eyed Simon from the corner of his eyes. “What did you tell her?”
Simon rolled his eyes.
I didn't tell them I have a girlfriend!
Susan pulled Glen's sleeve and pointed at Edmund at the other end of the bed. “Great-granddad, I know you're the most powerful person in the family. Can you make Daddy Eddy my daddy instead? He's the one who saved us when we were in danger. He helped us a lot.”
Here, she paused and blinked her bright eyes at the old man before moving closer to whisper in his ear. “Most importantly, Daddy Eddy likes Mommy, and Mommy likes him too. He really loves us like his own children.”
Glen's eyes sparkled at the idea.
True that. Simon's not a potential candidate, so if Bailey likes Eddie, I can really make it happen.
“Are you sure about that, Susan?” Glen inquired.
The girl nodded firmly with a smile. “What are you going to do?”
Glen rubbed his chin and fell into deep thoughts.
This is worth considering.
Artemis had been standing beside the bed all that while. His head dropped, and a glint of disappointment shone in his eyes.
I'm the unlikeliest person to end up with her, but I can't help it. She already has a place in my heart. What can I do? Watch her marry someone else? I don't think I can do that. I can give up on anything but her.
Over at the Revelle residence, Bill was having a confrontation with Veronique.
Bam!
The man slapped the table in full force and pointed at his daughter.
“I chose to let you be when you refused to say who the father was seven years ago, but Zephyr is in a dire state now, Veronique Revelle! Are you going to watch your son die without doing anything?” Bill raged, his body shivering in anger.
Veronique looked down silently. There was no telling what was on her mind as she sat before her father like a lifeless puppet.
Bill was even more furious when she did not reply to him. “Can't you hear me when I'm talking to you? Are you still protecting that man and letting your son die?”
Veronique took a deep breath and looked up. “Dad, I really don't know who that man is. I was drunk that night. I don't even remember his face,” she said hoarsely.
“This is absurd! You've studied medicine your whole life. I know you've tried different medications, so there's no way some alcohol or drugs can cause your memory to be fuzzy. At the end of the day, you just want to protect that man!”
Standing up, Bill snorted and continued, “I understand if you want to keep him from me, but let me warn you, Veronique. If I find out who he is, I will cut him into pieces.”
Veronique also stood up and gazed at her father. “I was really drunk that night,” she reiterated. “I told you I don't remember who he is, so you can choose to believe whatever you like. I don't have time for this. I still need to look into Old Mr. Chivers' operation. I'll get going.”
“You...” Bill was suddenly at a loss for words watching her leave. “Don't you want to hear Zephyr call you 'Mommy'? Do you want to be his aunt forever? You will regret this, Veronique.”
