Chapter 134
Chapter 134
Just as knocking-off time was near, Ronan's car pulled up outside the company. He rang Cordelia,
saying he was waiting for her downstairs.
After Cordelia got in the car, Ronan handed her her phone. She saw a call from Trina on the screen.
"What happened to Trina?" Cordelia looked nervous, fearing something had happened to her mom. NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
"Well, she rang to say your mom can move again. Wanna give her a call back?" Ronan asked.
"My mom's fingers can move again?" Cordelia exclaimed excitedly, "Does that mean she's about to
wake up?"
She seemed to be not talking to Ronan but just excitedly talking to herself.
"Um, maybe so," Ronan clearly couldn't share Cordelia's excitement.
Cordelia rang Trina back.
"Cordelia, your mom's awake, and she can talk. Come quick," Trina said.
Cordelia was momentarily stunned. She couldn't believe what she just heard, her mind going blank for
a while.
"Really?" Tears fell from Cordelia's eyes, but she didn't even notice.
"Come quick," Trina said.
After Trina hung up, Cordelia kept her phone to her ear for a long time. She feared that it had all been a
dream and she would wake up. After all, six years was a long time.
"Do you have time? Can you take me to Millstone Hospital?" Cordelia asked, finally coming to her
senses.
"Yeah." And with that, Ronan's car headed towards the hospital.
Cordelia was excited the whole way. Upon arriving at Millstone Hospital, Ronan was about to get out of
the car. But Cordelia suddenly thought of something and stopped him. She turned to Ronan and said,
"Can you not go in?"
"Why? Is there something you don't want me to know?" Ronan teased.
"No, it's just... the hospital isn't really your scene. It wouldn't be polite for my mom to see you just after
she woke up. I would have to introduce you and all. Is that okay?" Cordelia pleaded.
"Sure." Ronan lit up a cigarette.
Last time, Cordelia also used this kind of excuse. Ronan didn't notice last time, but this time he
understood. She was afraid her mom would spill the beans when she woke up.
Cordelia dashed off to the Neurology department. As soon as she pushed open the door and yelled
Mom, tears came gushing out.
"Della?" Her mom's tears also fell onto the pillow.
Cordelia threw herself onto her mom, "Mom, you're awake? You're really awake. I can't believe it; it's
been six years."
Shelley patted Cordelia's back, "You still cry as easily as before. You have changed so much, I hardly
recognize you. I remember you were still in high school, but Trina just told me that six years have
passed." Shelley knew nothing about Cordelia's life now.
Cordelia's tears came even harder; her mom was still calling her Della. Finally, besides Barney, there
was another person in this world who still called her Della. Cordelia was flooded with emotions.
Once she calmed down, Cordelia sat by her mother's bedside, catching up on old times. Trina tactfully
left, this being a private family matter after all.
"What's your brother doing?" Shelley asked.
"My brother is a driver. He's doing well. He often visited you while you were sick." Cordelia said, wiping
away her tears.
Shelley knew her son all too well, and she gave a bitter smile, "He probably wishes I was dead, right?
Then he wouldn't have to pay for my medical expenses. What about you, what are you working as?"
Shelley gripped Cordelia's hand tightly. Cordelia was overwhelmed. She had held her mom's hand
countless times before but there was never any response until now. "Me? I'm an auditor at a company,
and I'm studying for my CPA. I'll pass it next year," Cordelia said proudly.
"Della, you're amazing," Shelley gently patted Cordelia's head, "Well, the cost of my hospitalization is
very high. Where did the money come from? Trina told me just now that her nursing fee is three
thousand dollars a month."
Cordelia hesitated, "The real estate company where dad worked and the person who hit you both gave
some compensation. That should cover it."
Shelley shook her head, "That's not enough."
Seeing that she couldn't hide it, Cordelia said, "Do you remember Ronan?"
"Of course," Shelley had just seen him. How could she forget?
"I married him. He's rich, and he's been paying for your medical expenses. Also, he doesn't know about
the eyes. I haven't told him, so could you also keep it a secret? I don't want him to feel obligated to
me." Cordelia confessed, realizing that her mom would definitely find out about her marriage now that
she was awake.
Cordelia didn't mention the contract marriage, fearing her mom would feel bad knowing she did
something like that for money.
Shelley brushed Cordelia's hair behind her ear, thinking to herself: It was too late, she already told
Ronan.
She was anxious, wondering about her daughter's future marriage.
