The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 76

Chapter 76

About an hour later, Cordelia came up from downstairs to find Ronan already in bed, reading.

She sat down at the computer and looked through the content Ronan had translated. Even though she

didn't understand it, it seemed detailed.

What surprised Cordelia was the name at the end of the German resume: Ethan.

"Ethan? Who's that?" Cordelia asked Ronan.

"Did I write Ethan?"

"Forgot already?" Cordelia pointed at the name on the computer screen for Ronan to see.

"Don't sweat it; leave it like that."

Cordelia was a tad confused. She figured that Ethan might be an alias for Ronan. Despite him saying

that she was not qualified to apply for the Audit Department and that he wouldn't help, he still put his

name at the end of the German resume.

With a recommendation from the president of Lumos Enterprises, the other company would likely take

Cordelia seriously.

Her heart swelled with gratitude. Ronan always helped her when she least expected it.

How sad would she be when their marriage of convenience ended one day?

What would she do when he married Deanna?

Cordelia checked the resume one last time before sending it off to the HR department.

She made up her mind. She would tell Jamie that she wasn't planning on working for his company.

Even if she couldn't work in the Audit Department, she shouldn't have other plans considering how

Ronan treated her.

After they had gone to bed, Cordelia laid her head on Ronan's chest, not saying a word, her eyes

slightly moist.

"Don't flatter yourself; I sign off on all my foreign materials to avoid them being plagiarized." Ronan

mentioned nonchalantly.

Cordelia fell silent.

Why was he like this? He always had to ruin her sentimental moments.

Annoyed, Cordelia picked up her phone and changed his nickname to “Junie.”

Ronan glanced at it.

"I’m no longer John Doe?" Ronan asked casually.

"Yep, you have a name now. What's my nickname on your phone?" Cordelia asked suddenly.

She had never seen Ronan's phone all this time.

"Jane Doe." Ronan replied.

Cordelia got mad. Why did he always have to one-up her?

She wrapped herself in the blanket, turning her back to Ronan to sleep.

The next day, Cordelia was in good spirits and worked diligently all morning. At eleven, she received a

call from an unknown number.

"Cordelia?" The voice on the other end was a calm and pleasant female.

"Yes, that's me, and you are?" She didn't sound like a salesperson.

"I'm Brenda, a partner at PrimeNumbers Accounting. You're the assistant Jamie introduced, right? I

was driving out and happened to pass by Lumos Enterprises and thought we could have a chat. Do

you have time?" The lady was very polite and straightforward.

Cordelia figured it wasn't appropriate to discuss job interviews with another company while at work.

Even though she wasn't planning on working for Jamie's firm anymore, she still had to clear things up

with them.

"Sure, there's a café named Bean Boulevard across from our office; how about we meet there in a bit?"

"Sounds good; I'll be there soon."

Cordelia worked for another ten minutes before heading downstairs.

Brenda looked about forty; her skin was flawless, and she was dressed professionally. She exuded the Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

confidence and charm of a career woman, which made Cordelia a bit envious.

"Brenda?" Cordelia sat down across from Brenda.

"Cordelia? I ordered a steak and a salad for you; is that enough?" Brenda asked warmly.

"That's perfect. Thank you, Brenda." Cordelia was taken aback by Brenda's thoughtfulness, making it

hard for her to refuse.

"Cordelia, I've seen your resume. Your education level isn't very high, but that's okay; you've done well,

and Jamie has also mentioned how good you are. I’m pleased, and it seems like you have a clear plan

for your future. Have you decided when to start working at our firm? I’m really busy right now and in

desperate need of an assistant. The salary varies for different accountants’ assistants at our firm, but I

can offer you $2000 a month.” Brenda was concise and straightforward.

A salary of $2000 was much higher than what Cordelia was making now.

Cordelia stirred her coffee. "Brenda, I'd like to continue working at Lumos Enterprises. I don't want to

switch jobs."

"You've changed your mind?" Brenda seemed visibly surprised. "I heard Lumos Enterprises is

establishing an Audit Department. Are you planning on joining them?"

Cordelia nodded seriously. "I'm really sorry, Brenda."

"I see." Brenda replied, "But I read Lumos Enterprises' Audit Department's recruitment information, and

the requirements are really high. Apart from education, you have to pass all CPA subjects. Many

people will compete for this position; do you think you're up for it? If you don't get a position in Lumos

Enterprises' Audit Department and then come to us, we might not want you."

Even though Brenda said this with a smile, Cordelia heard the seriousness in her voice, making it

difficult for her to let this opportunity slide.

"I understand. I may be a bit foolish and know that the road ahead is tough, but I still want to give it a

try. I don't want to just sit on the fence." Cordelia said.

Even though Cordelia turned down Brenda's offer, Brenda still felt comforted by Cordelia's honesty.

Plus, Brenda knew it was Jamie who slipped Cordelia's resume into her mailbox and that today's

follow-up interview was her idea in the first place, not Cordelia's. So Brenda didn't hold it against

Cordelia; instead, she really admired her.

"So does this mean we can't work together for the time being?" Brenda asked again.

"That's right." Cordelia answered with a smile.

"Then I guess I'll just have to settle for a dinner with my friend Cordelia."

Cordelia also felt quite relieved to see Brenda be so chill. They had dinner together, chatting about a

bunch of stuff that had nothing to do with work.
