The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 77

Chapter 77

When Jordan came down for lunch, he immediately spotted Cordelia and Brenda at a table across from

him.

He frowned.

Lumos Enterprises was planning to establish an Audit Department, and the idea didn't sit well with

Jordan. Most of the responsibilities of the Finance Department would be transferred there, which would

essentially undermine his position as the CFO. Since Cordelia was “Mrs. Evans,” she would

undoubtedly join the Audit Department, and his nightmare about Cordelia ranking higher than him was

about to come true.

He didn't want Cordelia in the Audit Department; after all, she knew a lot about the Finance

Department, and future audits wouldn't be in his favor.

He knew Brenda from back in the day; they had a bit of a romantic entanglement.

Jordan wanted to speak with Mr. Evans so he could let him know that Cordelia was currently chatting

with Brenda.

As a finance person, Cordelia hanging out with an accountant from another firm could potentially raise

suspicions, even if they weren't discussing work.

He was about to take the elevator upstairs when he ran into Ronan and his assistant.

"Mr. Evans." Jordan greeted him politely.

"Hmm." Ronan responded briefly; he was about to have his meal.

"Oh, by the way, Mr. Evans. I need to take a leave. I just bumped into an old classmate of mine; she's

chatting with Cordelia at the café across the street. You can call my cell if you need anything."

"Hmm." Ronan frowned slightly, wondering why Cordelia would know Jordan's female classmate.

For someone at Jordan's level, it wasn't necessary to ask for leave for a half-day absence. He must've

mentioned it to Ronan because he ran into him.

While walking out of Lumos Enterprises, Ronan immediately glanced at the café across the street.

Sure enough, Cordelia was chatting with a charming lady.

"Who is that? Do you know her?" Ronan asked his assistant.

"Brenda?" The assistant replied, "She's a partner at PrimeNumbers Accounting."

Being familiar with the leaders of major competing companies was part of an assistant's job.

Ronan's face darkened. If he remembered correctly, PrimeNumbers Accounting was Jamie's company.

There was no doubt that Brenda was chatting with Cordelia with the intention of introducing her to her Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.

future working environment.

Cordelia was really good at planning for her future, grabbing hold of Jamie with one hand and the Audit

Department with the other. Ronan knew she had already sent her resume to Jamie and also to the

Audit Department.

Even if one side fell through, she still had the other as a backup.

"You go ahead and eat." After saying that, Ronan went back upstairs to get his car keys.

If she wanted to have it both ways, he would let her taste the bitterness of neither side having her back.

Ronan first called the HR department, instructing them to reject Cordelia's resume.

"But, Mr. Evans, you translated Cordelia's resume." Emily from HR reminded Ronan, meaning he had

already signed Ethan's name on the back of her resume, indicating to HR that Cordelia should be

allowed to take the written test.

"Reject her resume." Ronan didn't elaborate further.

Emily wondered if Cordelia had upset Ronan again. She always ended up suffering the consequences

but kept provoking him.

"Alright, Mr. Evans."

Ronan then called Thomas. "What's your son's phone number?"

Thomas on the other end of the phone seemed a bit nervous. “My son? What did he do to upset you

again?”

“Tell me his phone number.”

“If my son has offended you, I can apologize on his behalf, but you need to calm down.”

“Phone number!” Ronan was tired of the other's rambling, so he harshly issued an ultimatum.

Thomas gave the phone number and immediately tried to call Jamie, only to find that Jamie’s phone

was busy.

“Where are you?” Ronan asked Jamie on the phone.

He had given Cordelia opportunities, quietly setting up the Audit Department and imposing restrictions

on office gossip, all in an effort to keep her. He even personally helped her translate her resume, but

Cordelia showed no appreciation and even intended to switch jobs.

This completely infuriated Ronan.

"I'm at the office. Do you need anything, Mr. Evans?"

"Do you think I would call you if I didn't need anything?" Ronan responded with disdain.
