The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 88

Chapter 88

Cordelia had been following Jordan's advice and working at Lumos Plaza every day. She had been

handling the finances there and was super busy. Now, she no longer carpooled with Ronan but went to

work and came home on her own, then went straight to bed.

On Friday, she came back to the company to take a test for the Audit Department. There were two

tests in one day, and there was another interview next week.

At the written test, Cordelia ran into someone: Manda.

The Audit Department was hiring from all over, and Manda also came to take the test. After all, the

salary at Lumos Enterprises' was pretty high. It started at 20 grand with no cap, which was quite a

draw. Manda successfully passed the preliminary test and entered the written test stage.

This time, it was Manda's half-brother Lionel who came with her. Lionel heard from Manda that

Cordelia also worked at Lumos Enterprises and guessed that Cordelia would apply to the Audit

Department too. Manda loved to stir the pot, hoping her half-brother and Cordelia would have a run-in.

Cordelia tried to avoid Lionel when she saw him, but Lionel had already spotted her, his eyes filled with

mixed feelings.

"Cordelia, wait for me!" Lionel said, staring straight at Cordelia.

The last time Lionel harassed Cordelia, Ronan had someone teach him a lesson. But that didn't make

him back off. Instead, he found Cordelia even more fascinating. She was tough and unique. She made

it hard for him to suppress his thoughts, leaving him feeling a bit miffed. Plus, Cordelia was really

pretty; if he could date her, he'd be the envy of everyone.

After seeing Lionel, Cordelia was reminded of the last time she was taken away by the police. That

time, Ronan was furious.

On Monday, the Audit Department released the list of people who entered the secondary test, and

Cordelia's name was on it.

But she suddenly didn't want to go to the Audit Department anymore.

She emailed Wyatt, stating that after careful consideration, she felt that she was better suited for a job

in the Finance Department, thanked Wyatt for his support, and apologized for the trouble she had

caused.

Wyatt went to Ronan and asked. "Ronan, did you know your wife has turned down the job at the Audit

Department?"

"I had no idea." Ronan was also surprised; after all, the Audit Department had always been Cordelia's

goal.

"Could you ask her why? Her test results were excellent, and I don't want to lose this talent." Wyatt

said.

From what Ronan knew of Cordelia, she would prefer the Audit Department over the Finance

Department.

Could she be thinking of going to Jamie's company?

He checked the time and saw that it was almost quitting time, but she finished work at the same time

as the mall, at ten o'clock.

He went out for a meal, stayed in the office for a while, and then drove to Lumos Plaza without telling

Cordelia in advance.

At about ten past ten, Cordelia walked out of the mall, looking worn out and still holding a cup of coffee.

She was wearing a white shirt paired with jeans and carrying a canvas bag, looking like a college

student. But at this moment, maybe because she was tired, her eyebrows were drooping, looking a bit

pitiful.

When Cordelia got to the entrance of the mall, Ronan's car honked a few times.

She reacted slowly and then got into Ronan's car, still sipping her coffee.

"Are you drinking coffee again?" Ronan looked at the coffee in Cordelia's hand and frowned.

Cordelia was very sleepy, and her mind was a bit fuzzy. She glanced at the coffee in her hand. "It's

from your mall; I'm not the only one drinking it."

"I don't have the right to control what other people do; they're not my wife." After saying that, Ronan

started the car.

Cordelia's originally fuzzy mind became a bit clearer because of Ronan, and she felt sweet inside.

She silently put the coffee in the trash can in front of the car and then looked out the window.

"Why aren't you going to the Audit Department?" Ronan got to the point. "Didn't you always want to

go?"

"Did Wyatt tell you?" Cordelia looked out the window. "I saw Manda at the written test; she passed too."

"And so what? What does that have to do with you?"

"I just didn't want to upset you." Cordelia looked down and started fidgeting with her hands.

Ronan felt pleased after listening to Cordelia. She was starting to consider his feelings. He glanced at

her. "Why would I be upset?"

"Manda's brother, Lionel. Last time, we both got taken to the police station. If I went to the Audit

Department, I'd definitely be an assistant like Manda. We'll inevitably have conflicts at work. Her

brother might take advantage of that. I can tell that her brother is a troublemaker. I'm afraid there will be

a conflict, and it will embarrass the Audit Department. You'd get mad and unhappy. So, I won't go. In

the Finance Department, even if her brother has any plans, he can't carry them out. I'll wait until next Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.

year. Next year, when I get my CPA license, I'll go. I'll learn more in the Finance Department for another

year." Cordelia remembered how Ronan looked outside the police station last time, and she didn't want

that to happen again.

Ronan held the steering wheel, feeling like the cool breeze tonight was very comfortable.

"Are you really not going?" He asked Cordelia again.

Cordelia nodded seriously. "I'm not going!"

The moment Cordelia finished her sentence, Ronan's phone, which was sitting smack dab in the

middle of the two, started buzzing.

She glanced over, and a name jumped out at her: Deanna.

Seeing that name made a bitter taste fill Cordelia's mouth.

Ronan took the call on his earphones, his conversation now inaudible to Cordelia. From the looks of it,

it seemed like a run-of-the-mill chat.

Cordelia's gaze drifted to the window, a sour mood creeping up on her. However, she wasn't in a

position to complain.

Ronan ended his call without giving her any explanation.

Once they got home, Ronan headed to the bathroom for a shower, while Cordelia went straight to bed.

She knew Ronan had been trying to get close to her these past few days, but after seeing Deanna's

call, she decided to shut him out.

Wrapped in a towel, Ronan stepped out of the bathroom to find Cordelia already asleep, looking as

cute as a button. Her skin was soft and smooth.

He sat by her bed, unable to resist brushing his finger lightly against her cheek.

He was reminded of her saying, "I'm just afraid you'll be upset."

Ronan went downstairs to make a call to Wyatt, requesting to cut Manda from the interview without

giving any reason.

Additionally, he rang up Jordan, pressing for more hands in the Finance Department because the

workload at Lumos Plaza was killing Cordelia.

Jordan hurriedly agreed, figuring that Mr. Evans was looking out for his missus. He promptly arranged

for two more people.

Ronan had thought about getting someone to keep an eye on Cordelia's coffee consumption but

realized it was a no-go as she had her own rights.

Luckily, the grinding days at Lumos Plaza were coming to an end.
