“But aren’t you injured? What did the doc say? Where exactly did the bullet hit?”
“I’m not quite sure. Emmett, Patrick, and Sophia just told me I’m fine and that I just need some rest.”
‘That’s great. What’s the plan now?”
“You and your guys should leave the country and hang out abroad for a while. Once things are stable here, I’ll let you know. I’m worried Emmett might start snooping around; it could get you guys in hot water.”
“Got it. But once we leave, you’ll be all alone here. Want me to stick around and send the rest?”
“No need! If you guys stick around, it’ll just be a distraction. I just saved the Melendez family’s kid. There’s no way they’d suspect me.”
“Okay, I get it. Take care of yourself. I’ll wait for your call.”
After hanging up, Leah immediately deleted all call records, even resetting her phone to factory settings.
Not long after, Sophia walked in from outside, carrying a bowl of freshly cooked soup. “The doc said you can have some liquid food in a couple of hours. I’ve got it all ready.”
Thanks for caring.” Leah smiled weakly. “Can I see the pictures of the kids? Things were pretty hectic; I didn’t get a good look at them. Alex is so mature now.”
Sophia sighed and quickly pulled out her phone to show her the pictures.
“Yes, Alex is very obedient around Aiden. At first, he was a bit of a rascal; he didn’t want to do his homework and always wanted candy. But now he’s doing great in school; he even got a perfect score last time. That’s all thanks to Aiden. After school, he would finish his homework and explain it to Alex.”
A relieved smile appeared on Leah’s face. “That’s great! As long as they’re doing well, I’m content.”
“Don’t say that! Aren’t you doing well too? Listen, when you were in the ER, my son came to the hospital. That means he’s starting to take notice of you. I’ll call him back when I get home and have a good talk with him. Maybe he’ll agree to let you stay at our house.”
“Really? Emmett came to see me?”
“Of course it might be a tall order to get him to accept you and marry you right away but we can take it slow, one step at a time. Don’t rush. Once you’re living with us, you’ll have more opportunities to be around him. The closer you are, the easier it is to win him over. You’ll develop feelings for each other over time.” Leab lowered her head, moistening her lips slightly. “Actually, I never dared dream of marrying Emmett. He’s out of my league; I’m just an ordinary woman.”
“So, you don’t like my son?” Sophia raised an eyebrow. NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
“I do like Emmett; I believe there’s no one in this world who wouldn’t like him once they’ve met him. But the gap between us is too big. I can’t imagine getting close to
him.”
not? If even his mother supports you, doesn’t that make things easier?” Sophia patted her shoulder. “All you need to do now is take good care of yourself and/ wait to marry into our family.”
