We Got Love, The Crazy Kind

Chapter 34 He Understood It Perfectly Well

Chapter 34 He Understood It Perfectly Well

Amber had no idea how she fell asleep that night, but she woke up the next morning to a terrible

headache. After making sure the coast was clear outside, she crept her way to the bathroom and

washed up. She then scooped up her backpack and got ready to head to the library to do some

research.

Her phone rang when she was putting on her sneakers in the foyer.

“Good morning, Amber. I’m sorry that I didn’t have time to call you back last night. Now, I’m all yours.

Spill the tea and tell me all about your crush!” Emma was already full of pep although it was early in the

morning.

“You shouldn’t take what I said last night too seriously because I was only joking.” Amber had no

intention of delving into the subject at the moment. As Mia’s kittenish voice she heard last night was still

resounding in her head, she would be throwing her self-esteem away if she still thought she stood a

chance with Liam.

Emma was unconvinced. “Don’t try to bluff me by saying that! I know you too well to be sure that you’re

lying. Answer me now—have you fallen in love with Liam Croft? He’s the most likely candidate I can Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.

think of!”

Emma’s spot-on guess startled Amber. She accidentally dropped her keys on the floor, producing a

loud clinking noise.

Quickly, she stole a furtive glance at Liam’s bedroom. Seeing that the door was still shut, she reckoned

that the lovey-dovey couple was still sleeping in each other’s embrace.

She stuffed her keys back into her trouser pockets and squirmed her feet into a pair of sneakers

hurriedly. In an undertone, she denied vehemently, “What nonsense are you spouting? There’s no way

I’m falling in love with Liam because we simply don’t belong to the same world! Well, I’ve got to go.”

To stop her from hanging up, Emma yelled, “Hey, you’re not allowed to end this call until you give me a

clear explanation. Don’t tell me you still have feelings for Oliver.”

Amber, who was desperate to end the discussion, answered perfunctorily, “Yes, I still have feelings for

Oliver. Are you satisfied now, Ms. King? Am I allowed to hang up now?”

In response, Emma mumbled in dissatisfaction, “I know you just said that to brush me off. The sun

would be rising from the west if you still had feelings for him!”

With a faint smile, Amber replied, “Listen, I must get going now or there will be no seats left for me in

the library.”

After ending the phone call with Emma, Amber closed the main door as gently as she could and left the

apartment.

Right after the door was closed, Liam walked out of a corner well-hidden by a cabinet in the living

room. His face looked unruffled as usual, but his hands were clenched tightly around a glass of water.

“What nonsense are you spouting? There’s no way I’m falling in love with Liam… Yes, I still have

feelings for Oliver…”

He had heard what Amber said very clearly just now.

Indeed, Amber and he did not belong to the same world. He was going to take over his family business

in the future, and Mia played a crucial part in bolstering his position in the company. People around him

had always envied him for being born into a rich family, but no one realized that he would be left with

nothing if he was stripped of his status.

Women and relationships had always been at the bottom of his priority list. He needed to focus his

attention fully on fending off enemies who could jeopardize his position.

Liam downed the glass of water. A barely noticeable smile emerged on his face in which there were

traces of bitterness and relief.

The wind was blustery and the snow was falling heavily that day. By the time Amber arrived at the

library, her jacket was nearly drenched. The library was less crowded than usual owing to the atrocious

weather.

She chose a seat near the window and dried her jacket on the heater. Then, she took out some books

and her laptop from her bag to start working on her dissertation.

Her secondhand laptop was plagued with glitches right after she switched it on. It quickly drove Amber,

who was already in a bad mood that day, up the wall.

“Hey, what a coincidence to see you here!”

Amber looked up to find Jack waving his hands at her. There was a wide grin on his handsome face,

and his pearly white teeth gave him a healthy and refreshing aura.

“Hey, Jack!” Amber smiled politely back at him. Seeing Jack had no intention to leave, she cleared up

the chair next to her for him.

“Here’s a piece of good news for you—I believe I can get you a copy of the book I damaged in no time,”

Jack said earnestly.

As the population of girls was more than guys at the university, Jake was no doubt very popular among

the girls. Amber was surprised by how clear his eyes were and how good-natured his smile looked.

Those were the things other guys like him did not have.

“That’s great! I appreciate that,” Amber said with a smile.

Mesmerized by her smile, Jack tried hard to keep his composure. “You shouldn’t thank me at all. That’s

what I’m supposed to do after damaging your book.”

The atmosphere became relaxed and comfortable after they exchanged a smile with each other.

Jack did not disturb Amber after the conversation. Instead, he took the table next to hers and started

reading a book.

Amber returned her attention to her book too. The place was so still and quiet that only the sound of the

raging wind outside could be heard. Surprisingly, the sound added more tranquility and peace to the

place.
