Chapter 168
Chapter 168
Before they could go in, the camera lights started flashing beside them. Coralie Chariott turned around
and saw Franklin Moore with a beautiful long-legged model.
The model was very tall, and she was about the same height as Franklin with her high heels on.
Franklin walked over to Coralie and Skylar and greeted them, "President Holland, I didn't expect you to
bring Coralie out here so openly. I'm afraid that Valerie will make a fuss when she sees you later. Even
if you're not afraid of anything, you shouldn't drag a nobody like me into your mess all the time."
He was referring to the secret photoshoot in the hotel last time.
He had to endure a scolding from his father because of it.
"Is she coming too?"
Skylar Holland frowned when he heard that Valerie Rae would be attending the banquet too.
After all, Valerie always had the knack to ruin everyone's mood. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
"Yes, President Rae is bringing her to meet Young Master Zac tonight. He seems much better than you
are."
Franklin deliberately belittled Skylar.
Indeed, the Young Master of the Zac family would be a better candidate in terms of a political marriage.
"It would be great if they could eventually tie the knot."
Deep down, Coralie hoped that Valerie and Young Master Zac would get married.
......
When they entered, Coralie saw Valerie, who was wearing a light pink petal dress, sitting in a
wheelchair. Beside her stood a man in formal wear, who wore a pair of glasses and looked like a
gentleman.
"Valerie didn't have her prosthesis with her..."
Coralie murmured.
In fact, if Valerie were to wear the artificial limb, her disability wouldn't be obvious at all. However, she
chose not to. Was she trying to prove something?
Skylar looked over and he was similarly surprised. Obviously, he did not expect that Valerie would
come in a wheelchair to attend such an important occasion.
Although the purpose was not clear, it was not difficult to guess.
Franklin was standing beside him. When he saw Valerie, his thin lips curled up, "Well, President
Holland, you seem to have encountered a tricky problem."
"Is the one standing beside her the Young Master of the Zac family?"
Coralie asked.
"Yes."
"But, didn't Franklin say just now that President Rae brought her here to meet with Young Master Zac?
She..."
Coralie was a little puzzled.
Wouldn't things go downhill if Valerie were to act like this?
Did she do it on purpose?
"Can't you see that? Her wheelchair is not meant for Young Master Zac's eyes, but for you. Look at her.
She lost a leg for you, yet you're still clutching arms with her fiancé."
Franklin revealed Valerie's true intentions.
Coralie was speechless.
Her heart was in turmoil.
Skylar and Coralie were standing in the hall with Franklin and his model girlfriend. They were two pairs
of lovely couples. It was inevitable that people's attention would fall on them.
Valerie and Young Master Zac also looked towards them.
Valerie then pointed in the direction where Coralie and Skylar were standing at. She wheeled herself
over to them with Young Master Zac beside her.
She looked at Skylar and Coralie before introducing sweetly, "President Zac, this is Skylar and his...
wife."
When it came to the word 'wife', Valerie's voice trailed off. It obviously sounded a little choked.
"Hello, my name is Jasper Zac."
Young Master Zac first introduced himself, then he took out his business card and handed it to Skylar.
Franklin also introduced himself and received a business card from Jasper.
Coralie stood next to Skylar. She wasn't sure if she was overthinking, but Jasper seemed to give her a
hateful look.
Skylar looked at Valerie who was sitting in a wheelchair and knew that she carried bad intentions. He
said, "I heard that your meeting has some other purpose to it. We shall not disturb you then."
He was about to turn and leave.
However, at this moment, Jasper raised his hand and blocked the way, preventing Skylar and Coralie
from leaving, "President Holland, I have a project in A city. It has something to do with the Holland
group."
Two men stood together and talked about business.
Coralie didn't know what to do, so she stood aside.
Valerie sat in a wheelchair with one hand holding Coralie's hand and said, "Miss Chariott, since they
are talking about business, we'd better not stay here."
"Okay."
Coralie glanced at Skylar and felt that it was not good for her to stay. Thus, she had no choice but to
leave with Valerie.
"Miss Chariott, aren't you curious about the reason behind me being here in a wheelchair today?"
Valerie smiled at Coralie. Her smile was faint and mysterious, her thoughts unreadable.
"Yes," Coralie was surprised that Valerie had initiated the topic, but she still took the opportunity to
apologize again, "But I'm really sorry that you're injured because of me."
After all, a girl had become disabled because of her. Coralie felt really bad and sorry for her.
However, she was not willing to give Skylar up to Valerie just because of that.
"It's okay. In fact, my father is planning to set me up with President Zac today. You know, with a family
like ours, we don't really have a choice. We have to marry someone beneficial to our family. We're
considered lucky if we could marry someone we like, but there's nothing we could do about it
otherwise."
Valerie said slowly.
"I see."
Coralie was aware of that, especially having Anthony enlightening her about the existence of political
marriages between rich families.
"I don't think that I could stay by Skylar's side any longer, but I still hope that I could be as happy as
possible in the future. So, I came to meet President Zac in a wheelchair today, hoping that he would
know that I'm disabled from the beginning," Valerie's voice was gentle. She looked at Jasper, who was
talking to Skylar in the distance, "I was worried that he would regard me as a liar if he were to see me
with an artificial limb at first and only find out that I'm disabled after that. That would only double the
pain."
Coralie sympathized with Valerie after listening to her.
"I'm sorry that I... I took Skylar away."
Coralie apologized.
For the first time, she really felt that she had caused such misfortune on a beautiful girl like Valerie.
"Love cannot be forced, I understand that. Skylar doesn't like me, similarly, I couldn't just fall in love
with those who like me."
Valerie closed her eyes, her face full of sadness.
"I hope that Young Master Zac would accept you and treat you well."
Coralie stood on the side and put her hand on Valerie's shoulder. She even felt a little distressed for
her.
Valerie shook her head, "I hope so..." As she spoke, her face fell. She took Coralie's hand and said,
"Miss Chariott, could you please come with me to the bathroom?"
"Okay."
Coralie didn't know what had happened to Valerie, so she immediately followed after her.
After arriving at the bathroom, Valerie sat on the toilet with Coralie's help. The,n her cheeks were
flushed at the sight of blood on her underwear. She said to Coralie, "Miss Chariott, could you please
head over to the locker and grab a sanitary pad for me?"
Coralie knew what it meant, "Wait for me for a moment," After that, she left in a hurry.
Valerie looked at Coralie's back as she left. Her embarrassed expression disappeared completely,
replaced by a look of indifference.
